EDUCATION CANNOT BE CUTTING EDGEIt is either cutting edge or it is education. Not both.Modern, trendy, cutting edge school subjects that prepare children for the real world sound very appealing and populist but there is an elephant in the room that is not cool to discuss. The fundamental product of education is independent, functional adults who can think for themselves, solve problems and treat each other decently. Content is not the end in itself but is merely a vehicle to achieve real education. The best teacher I have ever worked with, taught his classes that the earth was flat!!! They learned amazing thinking skills: not to accept information at face value, to find information for themselves, how to assess reliability of information ... and, to laugh.Education has a higher goal than teaching someone to code a computer or weld a bracket. Whatever the foundation from which we teach, decent educators MUST then slip in all sorts to technical, artificial, impractical red-herrings to stimulate thought and problem solving. The content is thus actually irrelevant. The scientists who put the first man on the moon in all probability learned Latin at school. When curricula are settled (and static), one can train educators to use this established knowledge as a basis on which to build higher aims. Subjects directly relevant to the work place, however, are not static but are rapidly evolving and the only people skilled in those skills are people actually in the field. If you can entice this expert from industry into education, they immediately lose touch with what made them relevant in the first place. There is however a bit of a cynical motivation to support "modernising" subjects and that is to con gullible parents and pupils into believing that they are learning something useful. All the while the real objective of education is to practice thinking, stimulating curiosity and being comfortable with multiple perspectives.Vocational subjects? Important topic for another day.#Education #VocationalEducation #YouthUnemployment

Educating today's children for tomorrow's world Schools to prioritize a holistic approach to education by nurturing intellectual, talent-oriented, and ethical development in students. This approach aligns well with the goal of preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow's world, emphasizing not only academic growth but also the development of various skills and ethical values. It suggests a commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals capable of navigating the complexities of the future.image source:https://lnkd.in/dX63cw3B
