Larry Emdur finally won the Gold Logie... now it's time to bring back The Price Is Right (2024)

Larry Emdur won the Gold Logie at Sunday night’s ceremony, joking he is “the most axed man in television” during his acceptance speech – but there’s one program above all nostalgic viewers still make sure to remind him of daily.

Speaking to Mumbrella during the publicity lead up to the 2024 Logies, Emdur said that the time is right to reboot classic game show The Price Is Right – although he’s not necessarily the one to host this time around.

“Look, I’d love to do that show,” he says. “There’s great love for that show. There’s great love for nostalgia at the moment. I get the strangest comments from people, from young people and then older people and then old,oldpeople.

“Everyone’s got memories of that show. It’s quite bizarre really.

“Would I do it? I don’t think my body could stand up to it anymore because I’ve got people running and jumping on me and rolling around on the studio floor and picking people up and being thrown around like a rag doll,” he laughs.

“I’m not sure my old body could handle that anymore, but she was a great show, and lots of fond memories there for me. It was a very special part of my life.”

The Price Is Right has enjoyed ten different iterations on Australian TV since the 1957 version, hosted by Bruce Beeby.

Emdur first hosted the show from 1993 to 1998 on the Nine Network before it was axed.

The network then relaunched it in 2003, again axing it in 2005. Then, Emdur brought the show back on Seven in 2012 – a version which lasted a single season.

Despite not being on screen for over a decade now, The Price is Right still looms large in Larry’s life.

“Every day, every single day of my life, people are referencing Price is Right,” he said.

“And I love that. I love it that that played a part in people’s lives and I love it that people can remember shows that I’ve long forgotten. That’s very special.”

So iconic was the sight of Emdur in front of the big price board, that Working Dog Productions cast him in a cameo role in 1997 classic The Castle – when daughter Tracey unfortunately didn’t know the price of the luggage.

“I didn’t realise the importance of that until much later. Of all the shows they chose, of all the shows they could have been involved with to highlight the pop culture of TV at the time and what was on TV at the time, to be chosen for that, that was quite a thrill.

“People still quote me those lines today – so it’s a nice feeling.”

Aside from taking the Gold Logie last night, Emdur also took homethe Bert Newton Award for most popular TV presenter.
